What’s The Right Way to Handle A Cheating Girlfriend?

Truth is there’s NO right way, but there could be many wrong ways!

When a relationship is going to end, the way you handle the end could determine if you walk away with your heart and your pride intact, or if you’ll end up feeling like you messed everything up even more.

A cheating girlfriend is a painful thing, and most people would rather call it quits than give the relationship another chance, which is understandable. It’s a great breach of trust to have someone cheat on you.

There are things you can do that will help you feel that you did the best that you could, even if the relationship had to end:

1) Always approach your girlfriend with evidence that you can back up. Many times, you want to act at the first hint, but this could damage what was otherwise a good relationship. Investigate and arm yourself with solid facts that she will have a hard time denying if indeed they are true.

2) After you have thought about it and are ready to approach her, look for a good time to talk. When either or both of you are busy is not a good time. When you are having an argument is not a good time. Make a date and choose a time when you can both talk openly.

3) Where you break up with her also matters. Don’t hurt her unnecessarily by making a huge public scene. A quiet place that’s not within earshot of others is the best. Remember that voices may end up getting raised and there might be tears.

4) Are you giving her a chance to explain herself? A lot of the relationships that are successfully mended after a partner has cheated happen because the cheating partner was given a chance to explain themselves and their feelings. She may tell you that you have ignored her for a long time and she sought affection somewhere else, definitely something that you should know about.

5) Whatever your decision about the relationship, don’t keep her in suspense for days on end – tell her what you have decided, whether its to call it quits, give her a chance or take a break and then give it another shot. It’s unfair to keep another person waiting where feelings are involved.

It’s important not to treat your girlfriend like a criminal because she cheated on you. Violence is not only the most hurtful thing you can do, it’s unnecessary and can land you in trouble. If you have any things that you own jointly, make sure that you’re fair in splitting them.
